Corregidor Island Series - Bomb Hole

October 28, 2008

I know that this photo is not a good one but this is a very important shot of a very important place where a very important event happened. In the middle of the afternoon of December 8, 1941, General Douglas MacArthur was inside this building just a few blocks across the Mile-long Barracks when large fighter bombing planes roamed around the clear skies of Corregidor Island.

One of the first bombs that were thrown to mark the Japanese war to the Philippines were dropped there at that very hole in the middle of the stairway. During those times, the General is said to be just feet away from the spot were the bomb was dropped of. This is probably one of the most important holes that is present in the Island due to its historical traces.

By the way this is my 100th post! I'm so happy I've come this far! Thanks to God, my camera, to my stories and to the people who made this happen, all of you my blogging friends and viewers. Without you, this blog surely closed even from the start! God BLess us all and May I have a hundred more!

  1. "Louis" thanks you for visiting San Francisco Bay Daily Photo!

Louis is really happy to learn about your series on Corregidor! Louis is indeed a student of the history of World War II, particularly the war in the Pacific. Louis recently read William Manchester's biography of MacArthur, "American Caesar" and has read all 15 volumes (about 9,000 pages) of Samuel Eliot Morison's "History of U.S. Naval Operations in World War II."

"Louis" is adding a link to your blog at his SF Bay Daily Photo.

  6. Congratulations on the 100, and thanks as well for visiting my Glasgow and Sibiu blogs. I really appreciated your comment. I certainly do know Super Trouper :) (by the way, Glasgow isn't the capital of Scotland, but it is the biggest city - the capital accolade goes to Edinburgh, which also has a very good daily photo blog!).

Your history sounds very interesting and dramatic. I'm glad they've kept the hole - it's important to remember.
