Lenten Series Part VI (Santa Maria de Betania)

May 4, 2011 - Santa Maria de Betania

Santa Maria de Betania or Mary of Bethany is one of the myrrh-bearers or the ones that are directly involved in the burial of our Lord Jesus Christ or witnesses of His Resurrection. She is the Sister of Marta and Lazarus from the Place of Bethany near Jerusalem.

I will never forget the story of Mary and Martha going back to our Kindergarten days. Since I went to a Christian School from Kindergarten up until High School, the story of Mary and Martha has always been part of our Bible Reading. When Jesus went to their house, Martha kept on preparing things like food and other stuffs for Jesus and his Disciples, Mary was there to listen to the stories of Jesus Christ. She even washed Jesus's feet with the most expensive Perfume contained in an Alabaster Jar and used her hair to wipe it dry. Jesus appreciated it so much and told Martha that instead of doing and worrying so much about a lot of things, she should have just did what Mary did.

Santa Maria de Betania was tenth in the Good Friday Procession. This is the very first time the Statue of Mary of Bethany made it on the Procession. It is owned by our Municipal Vice Mayor Fernando Campaña.

  1. I'm not particularly crazy about elaborately dressed and ornamented icons and churches, but she does have a beautiful face. And your photo is stunning!

Don't worry, you're not the only one who disappeared for quite some time. I got overwhelmed by work, and family and social obligations again the past two months.

Hope you are doing well, Steven. :)

  2. Hilda - Thank you so much for appreciating my photo Hilda! It's so nice to see you here on my blog again! That's true, a lot of things happened to me earlier this year including the death of my mom and all the hectic requirements for my students at school. But now, I'm coping up this summer since I do not teach this summer and just going to school for Education Diploma.

Hope you're doing well too Hilda! God Bless you and see you here again soon!

  3. Hindi ako Katoliko but admire the work of art ng mga santos and santas. I agree with Hilda, your photo is indeed stunning! I specifically like the dark background, lalong nabuhay yung details dahil sa contrast.
