Lenten Series Final Part (The Sorrowful Mother)

May 7, 2011 - The Sorrowful Mother

The Sorrowful Mother or the Dolorosa is the depiction of the Virgin Mary after the death of Christ. She is always wearing Sad and Dark Colors usually Black or Dark Blue to show how sad she is with the death of her Son, Jesus Christ.

The Sorrowful Mother is always on the Last part of the Procession where devotees sing the Stabat Mater Dolorosa. The song as it goes in Latin:

Stabat Mater Dolorosa
iuxta crucem lacrimosa
dum pendebat filius.

Cuius animam gementem
contristatam et dolentem
pertransivit gladius.

At the end of the Procession, all the Saints would line up the Plaza in front of the Church all facing the image of the Santo Enchero or the Dead Christ. Then the Sorrowful Mother would face the Image of the Dead Christ and a Little Boy would start reciting the Prayer of Goodbye then another Statbat Mater Dolorosa will be sang. The image of the Sorrowful Mother is owned by Josefina Pasqual of General Trias, Cavite.

Thank you all so much for staying in tune with me on this Lenten Special. I hope you were all delighted with the stories and images of these Saints. I hope you would continue reading Cavite Daily Photo and I am very Happy for all your support! God Bless us all and Have a Happy Easter Season!

Lenten Series Part VII (Mary Magdalene)

May 5, 2011 - Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene is one of the myrrhbearers and was the very first person to see Jesus Christ as he rose from the dead.

When all his Male disciples, except John the Beloved, fled at the crucifixion and death of the Lord Jesus, she was the leader of the group of Female disciples who were there up until Christ's burial. She became prominent on the last days of Jesus and accompanied Him during his teachings.

Another famous story of Mary Magdalene is that when Jesus was on his way from one of His preachings, He saw a lady being condemned by the village people and was about to be stoned to death because she was accused of being a sinful prostitute. Jesus then stopped the people and told them, "Whoever believes that they have not sinned ever, you may start throwing the stone on me" then the people started fleeing one by one until it was Jesus and Magdalene left.

Mary Magdalene was the Eleventh on the Good Friday Procession. The Statue is owned by Leonardo Pascual of General Trias, Cavite

Lenten Series Part VI (Santa Maria de Betania)

May 4, 2011 - Santa Maria de Betania

Santa Maria de Betania or Mary of Bethany is one of the myrrh-bearers or the ones that are directly involved in the burial of our Lord Jesus Christ or witnesses of His Resurrection. She is the Sister of Marta and Lazarus from the Place of Bethany near Jerusalem.

I will never forget the story of Mary and Martha going back to our Kindergarten days. Since I went to a Christian School from Kindergarten up until High School, the story of Mary and Martha has always been part of our Bible Reading. When Jesus went to their house, Martha kept on preparing things like food and other stuffs for Jesus and his Disciples, Mary was there to listen to the stories of Jesus Christ. She even washed Jesus's feet with the most expensive Perfume contained in an Alabaster Jar and used her hair to wipe it dry. Jesus appreciated it so much and told Martha that instead of doing and worrying so much about a lot of things, she should have just did what Mary did.

Santa Maria de Betania was tenth in the Good Friday Procession. This is the very first time the Statue of Mary of Bethany made it on the Procession. It is owned by our Municipal Vice Mayor Fernando Campaña.

Lenten Series Part V (Santa Maria Jacobe)

May 2, 2011

Santa Maria Jacobe, or also known as Santa Maria Cleofas and "The Other Mary", is the wife of Cleofas, who is believed to be the brother of Saint Joseph, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ. She is mentioned in the Bible to be present at the Crusifiction of Jesus together with Mary, the Lord's mother and Mary Magdalene.

It is also believed that Maria Jacobe or Maria Cleofas was also present during the morning of Easter at Jesus's Tomb and was the one who brought the spices.

Santa Maria Jacobe was Seventh in the line on the Good Friday Procession. The Statue above is owned by Ma. Dalisay Clamor Pulido of General Trias, Cavite. Personally, this is my Favorite of all the Saints on this year's procession not just because of the beauty of the dress nor the shining Jewels but it stood up because of its Dramatic Lighting that made it Glow like a real apparition.
