Battery Hearn, One of the First Batteries that we have visited. It features one large, I mean very large battery canon, and a spare battery just behind it. It is just one of the 23 Batteries that are installed in the Island.
.
The longest-range coastal pieces were the two 12-inch (305 mm) guns of Batteries Hearn and Smith, with a horizontal range of 29,000 yards (27,000 m). Although capable of an all around traverse, these guns were not effective for use against targets on Bataan due to their flat trajectories.
Thanks for the trivia Abraham. While we were there, besides the beauty of the place I can feel the things, bad things that happened through out the war. It makes me feel a bit sad. Have you been here in the Philippines?

Indeed, the flat trajectories of these guns limited the help they could be to the defenders. That they held out as long as they did is amazing.
ReplyDeleteyup! That's what our tour guide told us! Thanks for your comment Louis! I really am glad you like my Series!
