Five Years Ago - Holy Wednesday

San Simon Apostol - Familia Que

The Holy week that stretches from Palm Sunday to Easter is a very important week for Filipino Catholics ever since the Spanish colonial era of the 1500's. Every day of the week has it's own tradition and rituals that commemorate and revere the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

During Wednesdays, at a few towns and cities in Cavite hold their annual Miercoles Santo procession which features the images of Christ and the people that were part of His life, especially on scenes that depicts his road to Calvary. With everything that is happening now, church gatherings are highly discouraged, which includes the annual processions here in General Trias every Holy Wednesday and Good Friday.

Let me share some of the photos I took during the Holy Wednesday procession of the Parish of Saint Francis of Assisi in General Trias last 2016. As we view and scroll down on the images, I invite you all to say a prayer for the mitigation of the coronavirus and for protection of all our front-liners who tirelessly give their time, effort, and lives for the benefit of humanity. Let's start our virtual Holy Wednesday procession.

It is a sad moment for most of us Catholics but it is for the better of everybody so we can continue celebrating these traditions with the Lord in the coming years. All we can do at this moment, especially on these days of stillness and prayer, is to meditate and reflect on this journey of life, and how we as people can help each other in these months of the pandemic and beyond. May God bless us all.

  1. It must be very difficult not having your celebrations, but it shows a lot of love and care for each other by not having them at this time. Having a virtual celebration through your photos was a great idea. Stay safe, Mxx

    1. Absolutely Margaret. Not going or pushing through such festivities show so much love not just by limiting the distance sbut also through the sacrifices not to go. Please stay safe!

  2. Beautiful photos of the procession SQ, I think the isolation rules are going to make it very difficult for many people over this Easter period. It is probably one of the only times in the year that both sides of my and my husband's family come together, about 50 of us :) will miss seeing all the children in the family so much.

    1. Oh Grace that is very sad! I am sure it would have been an amazing celebration of togetherness, but I guess there may be alternatives like video conferencing calls that can let you guys be together virtually :) I am very sure the children misses you guys as well and they will sure look forward to your next reunion when all else become good again.

  3. Such beautiful photos of the Easter procession in your town. It's sad that the Easter celebrations have to be cancelled, but it's for the good of the whole country.

  5. What a beautiful Easter procession. People all over will have a difficult time not seeing family during this holiday. It's best to have everything cancelled to protect people.
    Enjoy your day!
