Distance, My Friend

Robinson's Supermarket, General Trias

This is part of the new normal that we have here in the Philippines as supermarkets and groceries are limiting people that are inside their store premises. To help shoppers with their wait, chairs are provided just like these at the driveway just outside the Supermarket in a mall at General Trias. One thing I like about most Filipinos is that as long as you provide them with a set of justifiable rules that would benefit them and everybody else, they would [usually] follow.

The big question, what happens when there are no clear and well-thought of rules?

  2. Hello Stevenson. You picture disturbs me my friend. My question would be. How many Filipinos would think this situation through and ask the questions of Who? What? Why? Where? When? and How? They might then decide that this is not a good thing for anyone?

    1. Phil, you have said it very very very properly as I always have those questions on my mind whenever I see these things that have disrupted something into a new normal when what most of us have to be doing is questioning the point and cause of all this. Ughhhh I hope everyone can get that realization soon. Not just a few select but the majority to be honest. People always don;t realize that power is in their hands.

In Scotland we queue outside too but no chairs and it isn't fun in the rain. But we do it :-)

  4. That's the way it is these days. Cool photo! Even we are getting used to keep distance when talking to each other, shopping etc. It might be wise to continue with some of these advices and rules.

    1. You are very much right Villrose. At the moment that the key people are still in search for solutions, we should all maintain distance and that will keep all of us in a safer position. Happy Midweek Villrose!

  5. I don't understand ... his chairs are seated at a distance of a meter and a half and everyone has to sit on a chair until he can enter the supermarket?
WoW! We have no such thing ... in my city I have not seen people in line at all!
But is perhaps understandable ... I do a lot of shopping online!

    1. You said it right Ella! It's like a queue and my friend even told me that it's like a game of musical chairs that when a few gets inside, you have to move on the next chairs to reserve your place!

Great and best to do shopping online Ella! We don't have that option for groceries though at the moment.

  6. Wow, Stevenson, love that there are chairs!
Over here no one thinks about elderlies, people who might have a broken foot/leg or whatever!
I hope "Corinna" is somehow just a "flu" soon, but that we keep some things like distance and friendliness!
Just today, out of nowhere a woman gave me the biggest smile :-)
For nothing but being happy to be OK, I reckon.

    1. Iris that made me happy, that sharing something about a person smiling! A lot of people don't realize how powerful smiles can be and it can brighten a stranger's day through that simple gesture. Oh, here there is a priority for elders and persons with disability although Senior Citizens are not allowed to go outside the house in any case at this time. Keep smiling dear Iris!

  8. We have to line up in standing queues to wait to enter stores. I haven't been inside our grocery store since the first of March. I take advantage of shopping online and picking up my items in the parking lot. Personal shoppers can made substitutions and they do an excellent job of that. In the two and a half months there have only been two items that I would not have preferred, but could use anyway. - Margy

    1. That is amazing Margy, to be able to have that option to shop online or a personal shopper. We also have online shopping here but not for produce. I hope we can all go to the stores safely again very soon, only when it's very safe :)

    1. Oh Yogi, we also have our fair share of people who feels super entitled. But glad that there are some "sentinel" characters in most of those queuing citizens that would reprimand such acts HAHA

  10. That is so nice that chairs are provided...it wears me out just to stand. I am so blessed that where/when I go it is not crowded and I never have to wait.

    1. That is true Rose! I for one can be restless if I have to stand for hours but having these seats, I can even bring a book and sit and kill the time while I wait for my turn. Glad it's not crowded on your place Rose. Stay safe :)

  11. Frankly looking at this photo I'm amazed by the discipline applied by supermarkets and visitors also adhere well.

Do you know my friend,Stevenson ... a few days ago before welcoming Eid in many cities in my country ... people crowded around shopping in the market. Ignore the recommendation to keep distance from the government.
It is very worrying why the awareness of Indonesian citizens is still minimal and stubborn.

    1. Oh that is very sad Himawan :( Being in crowded areas are the main sources of infection for this kind of virus :( I just hope that after the Eid they will realize its importance and stay at home as much as they can or at least maintain distance. Stay safe there brother!

    1. Ohhh it's sad expecially if there are so many on queue. Maybe you can bring a folding chair because standing really takes toll on the legs especially if you can't walk around. Stay Safe!
