Wheels of Fate

Tejero, General Trias

This photo was taken months ago and the bicycle you see is mine. Seeing this photo on my drive makes me quite emotional because fate has turned around now that I cannot even take my bicycle out of our house. I used to ride it around our city and even to nearby towns and cruise through the streets with the wind on my shoulder. I took that photo when I bicycled my way to that hospital and have my blood extracted for a test that is requested by my cardiologist.

At the back, you can see our local Jeepney vehicle which is our traditional counterpart of buses since streets in our country used to be very narrow but even if highways are now widened, they are still regarded as "Hari ng Kalsada" or King of the Road. The front of the jeepney has been pattered from old American jeeps that were used during the American occupation of our islands in the early 1900's until the war of the 40's. It was then modified to have a long back to accommodate more passengers that are commuting for work or for a weekend trip to the mall.

The jeepney is one of the most important symbols of the Filipino Culture. It's very symbolic for me as it has been a big part of my life when I went to University and until now that I am working.

    1. I cannot agree more! IF we all learn to sacrifice by staying home as much as we can these times, it will all be for the better and fast recovery of our planet.

Thank you so much Tom! I agree, that is one colorful jeepney I was lucky enough to take with my bike's photo :)

  2. Cool looking bus. Hopefully you'll be riding your bike soon. Is that a person sitting othe front of the bus, I imagine they can't sit there when the bus takes off. Hang in there and stay safe. On the 18th our 2km limit is going to be extended to 5km. YAY! Little things like these can make people appreciate life a little bit more. Be patient, my friend and have a lovely new week.

    1. Thank you Bill! Haha, we do ride that part in the front and the rascal me loves sticking my right leg on the outside part so I can feel the wind as the jeep drives over (not very safe I know HAHA)

Oh yes! That is very good! 5 kilometers is quite a good distance compared to 2. Thank you so much my friend Bill and Happy Monday!

  3. The bus is so colorful and it's such a nice contrast with your bicycle. I wish you could get out for a ride as exercise. We are lucky in that one can walk, cycle, run, golf, even use a motor boat. As long as you stay six feet or so apart. (I think that's a little hard in a boat.)

It's a wonderful photo with terrific contrast!

  4. Time will come again when you can ride your bike around the city :)
I used to love it when our family went bike riding, but that all stopped when we had a fire and our bikes were destroyed. I think I would fall off one now!!
Stay safe and be happy :) xx

    1. Oh that is so sad :( Fires are also a big monster to our family because before I was born, Our house was taken down by a huge fire as well which devastated the spirits of my grandparents but still we were blessed to somehow rise up again from it.

      Stay Safe dear Margaret!

  5. You have a girl´s bike? Funny, I have a boy´s bike! Stevenson, that is funny, isn´t it?
I got mine from a hardware store and it was not as heavy as the girl´s version, hence.... I´m rather small, so a kid´s bike was the choice.
But these days I prefer "power-walking" as with the e-bikes it gets dangerous.
No respect, they speed along like a car, madness.

Kings of the road every country has, huh.
Here it´s rather Porsche and such, people are selfish. Yours at least make sense.

    1. Hahaha you are so right Iris! We call these bicycles "Japanese Bikes" because they are surplused from japan and brought here to be sold. Would you believe that this bike of mine was a scrap in Japan! The alloys are strong and can support my 250 pound self HAHA

But just like you I looove walking better because it's much lighter to bring nothing but my phone but yeah, at times I still wis I can ride that bike to a farther place, I think I brought that bike a couple of times all the way to work which was 8 kilometers away :)

Ohhhh I get what you mean, whenever a Porsche or a Ferrari would surprisingly show up on the streets here (very very very not frequent) it zooms like it's the only thing on the world HAHA

  6. I hope soon you will be able to ride your bike with some of the same freedom as before. Our state is coming down off lockdown starting today. We are still supposed to practice some social distancing...but we shall see.

    1. Thank you so much Rose. Oh, that sounds good but please take extra care despite the opening. Social distancing is a very good idea, but still staying at home if not very urgent will do it best :)

    1. They come in a variety of colors and designs which talks about how much they have, as you said it, lot's of character :) Some even have faces of their family airbrushed to it or signs of countries where the jeepney owner has once worked on :)

Thank you so much Grace, I really hope that as well :)
