Under a Grove

Asiong's Restaurant, Silang

I took this photo a couple of years ago when Sonny Lua, the owner of Asiong's Restaurant gave us a tour on the backside of the restaurant building. I really admire his garden which doesn't just have fresh vegetables and herbs that they use for their dishes, but even has a space for a grove of trees. If I'm not mistaken, these young trees are Mahogany, which are widely cultivated here in the Philippines. I think these trees are relatively bigger now given that a couple of years had passed.

The temperature here in the Philippines has been rising daily since I can count back. Tomorrow's forecast will be the hottest for the year with air temperatures at 36C (97F) with a heat index of 42C (108F). We have just opened the summer season a month ago here in the tropics but thinking about the next coming months and equating it with the current temperatures, May and June will sure be excruciating! But on places with forest cover and soil as land, temperatures are way better and the heat is a lot bearable. But here in the city where everything is concrete, may I tell you that it's a giant stone oven here. How's the weather on your side of the globe?

  2. ...before my retirement I was in the nursery business for 50 years. I'm a tree guy and appreciate the value of tree. With global warming, life will be impossible without shade!

    1. Wow! That sounds so amazing Tom! 50 years with trees! I have always been amazed by people who have the aptitude in distinguishing plants on their names and their types. It would be amazing to walk on the woods with you for sure! Hope people will plant more and more trees!

  3. Oh, my! So warm there so early, but I suppose to be expected. This is really beautiful. I love the trees. It's pretty cool here -- it's been a cool April, even though there have been warm days. Today was windy, which made it more chill. But the trees are beginning to pop their buds open and we're seeing early spring flowers so it's all so hopeful!

    1. Oh whenever I hear about spring I imagine small buds of leaves and flowers starting to show up. I wish you a fair and cool weather away from too much heat like what we have here now. I'm excited to see more flowers on your blog Jeanie! Stay Safe :)

  4. I don't think I could handle those temps and wouldn't want to try. :) My wife likes temps around 9C. I believe as you get older, the heat is harder to manage. Our temps are currently rising to 17C today and it's supposed to get in to the 20s. For you that would feel grand, I'm sure.
    Enjoy your day!

    1. Oh Bill I would definitely take a 9 or a 17 or a 20 any day of the year! Oh you got that right, no matter how much water I drink or how I open the AC for a time, it won;t do perfect good with this heat. Okay now I sound so whiny haha sorry about that. Stay Safe my friend Bill!

  9. I thought we were about to get a view of inside that restaurant. And maybe a photo of some Filipino delicacies. I'm sure you're working on that Stevenson. Unless of course you were too busy eating and enjoying yourself?

Those temperatures and the humidity sound pretty daunting. At least here in Britain, very few homes have air con but most have central heating.

    1. Oh Phil you gave me a good idea on my next posts, I would love to show native Filipino delicacies for you and my dear viewers soon :)

I am so happy that you are interested with the restaurant and let me share you the post I dedicated for it on my personal blog. Just visit this link my friend Phil -> https://www.stevensonque.com/2017/05/asiongs-of-cavite.html

Oh you are right! How I wish I can use my aircon more but it's pretty old and an hour of it will consume like 10 hours worth of power compare dto the newer inverter types so I have to minimize its use HAHA

Stay safe and be well Phil!

  10. I think restaurants that grow their own vegetables and herbs are always the best SQ. Gosh that is hot, thankfully we are now to autumn temperatures, much cooler. The only good thing about such extreme heat is that apparently the virus doesn't like it!
